12 Nepalis missing after ship capsize off Doha coast --2009-07-01
At least 12 Nepalis along with 17 others went missing after a vessel operated by a UAE based group capsized about two nautical miles off Doha coast early Tuesday morning. The ill-fated ship was bound for Doha of Qatar from Dubai of UAE before it was lost in the sea.
Of the 35 people on board, 24 were employees of HBK Power Cleaning. The remaining comprised nine crew members and two employees of a catering company. According to Gulf times, which first broke the news, the tragedy occurred at 6.30am when the ship was carrying out its normal mission at the entrance of the Doha canal. The ship, which was used by HBK Power Cleaning to provide support services to the petroleum industry, has been completely sunk. Altogether 29 people are still missing after late night search and rescue operation found only 6 survivors. One of the survivors died later. Among the missing, 12 are Nepalis, 11 Indians and one Bangladeshi, according to an HBK official.
The survivors are undergoing treatment at Hamad Hospital for "minor" injuries, according to the Gulf times. It was not immediately clear whether any of the survivors were Nepali nationals. Nepali ambassador to Qatar was also not immediately available for comments. Details are awaited. --nn

24 Nepalis die in one month in Qatar--2009-06-26
The number of Nepalis dying an untimely death in Qatar, a popular destination for foreign employment for Nepali youths, is increasing day by day. A list provided by the Nepalese Embassy in Doha shows 24 youths working in Qatar lost their lives due to various causes in the period of May 1 to June 5.
The list shows most of them died due to cardiac arrests and other illnesses, while others died due to some accident. According to the list, Amrit Bahadur Basnet, Ram Naresh Pandit, Gagan Tharu, Jhamak Bahadur Thapa, Saran Limbu, Sanu Kanchha Acharya, Ram Bahadur KC, Shatrughan Chaudhary Bheshraj Rai died due to cardiac arrest and respiratory diseases.
Pheku Mandal, Kesi Prasad Mandal, Dependra Bhandari, Kul Bahadur Bhandari, Dinesh Safi, Jeet Bahadur Makhim, Kari Charan Chaudhari and Yadav Kumar Shrestha also died due to heart attack. Yadav Dhakal died due to kidney failure. Likewise, Karna Bahadur Yadav and Muktinath Ghimire committed suicide, while others died due to some accident. Kedar Joshi died after falling from an under-construction high-rise building, Khadga Shrestha was electrocuted and Durga Prasad Shrestha and Nani Chhori Maharjan died in road accidents. -----nn

Police make other gory disclosures on abducted college girl's murder--2009-06-25
Police on Wednesday recovered the severed head believed to be that of murdered student Khyati Shrestha’s from Raniban area three days after her headless torso was found dumped in Bungamati stream at Sainbu, Lalitpur.
Organizing a press meet in the capital, Metropolitan Police Range Office Kathmandu (MPRO) said the head was found in Mudkhu jungle at Raniban (near Balaju) Kathmandu. MPRO chief Superintendent of Police Nawa Raj Silwal informed the media that the 42-year old main accused Biren Shrestha had packed the victim’s head inside a carton and dumped it in Mudkhu jungle. SP Silwal said the head was already in an advance state of decay when police found it some some 150 meters below the road in the jungle.
Earlier, accused Biren, a former biology teacher at Adarsha Vidya Mandir (AVM) School, had confessed about the location where he had disposed off other body parts of the victim. As per details provided by the main accused, police had on Sunday recovered Khyati’s torso in Sainbu and pieces of her hands and legs from Narayangarh-Chitwan highway on June 13. “Preliminary investigation has shown that the victim’s body was cut into ten pieces by a sharp object,” SP Silwal told media-persons at the press meet.
